Biography: James Isaac cut his teeth in the film industry starting out as a special effects technician on such David Cronenberg films as Naked Lunch and The Fly. Cronenberg had been his mentor and idol, and Isaac talked about how much he learned from the veteran director. But Isaac's focus had always been directing for himself, and he got the chance to do that with The Horror Show. It didn't turn out exactly as he had hoped, however.
"'Oh boy... The Horror Show. I was brought in after a week or so of shooting. At that point, I wasn't happy with the script or the direction the film was heading, other than the cast there wasn't much I liked about the project. By the time I took over, the ship had sailed, I simply tried to put a band-aid on a broken leg.'
In answer to the question of how he got involved with Jason X:
'I actually talked to Sean a few years ago while we were developing Freddy vs. Jason. I felt it was time to do a 'Jason' movie. Freddy vs. Jason was in development hell and I thought the time was right. Sean wanted to wait and see what was going to happen with Freddy vs. Jason. I went to Canada for a year to work with David Cronenberg on eXistenZ. When I came back, I told Sean I was coming down to LA and I was going to pitch him ideas for a new 'Jason' movie and that I wanted to direct it. He said 'come on down'. Sean, Todd, Noel and myself sat in a room and bounced ideas around. At the end of the meeting we had Jason X!'" - Full interview at Diabolical Dominion
